4.30.2020
Thursday. A new month starts tomorrow.
I almost forgot to chronicle the day, but it has been a somewhat crazy one, although I don't know why.
Final exams are underway and the normal excitement of a coming summer just is not here. In fact, there is a bit of depression in my, I would have to say. I think it is the uncertainty.
I still cannot find a solution to a local RV trip since the state parks are still closed with no released information as to when that will change. I can get day passes to hike on my Texas Parks Pass, but they are so far away. And I think this is their intention - to keep people close to home - but what it has done is sent those desperate to get out to Oklahoma.
I ordered the rooftop cargo carrier today. It will arrive in a few weeks. It is a costly purchase for sure, but hopefully, it will make a summer return to Glacier Basin a possibility in the new Forester.
I picked a bit and tried to work on Colleen Malone in a different key, and Bury Me Beneath The Willow. Sadie likes both of those, and I would like to get them to the point I can play them for her.
And through it all it has been a day of fielding questions about due dates, etc, through email. It gets tiring because these would be things I would rather address in person to my students in the class. But it is what it is.
But then, as Scarlett O'Hara famously said, "I'll think about it tomorrow."
Join our little family on our adventures, curiosities, musings and thoughts. From weekend outings, longer excursions, family history or just general discussions, who knows where these posts will go!

Corona Thoughts, part 41 (Cool, Wet, and Predictable)
4.29.2020
Wednesday.
That storm I had mentioned as forecasted yesterday came through about 2 am. The wind did get up, but the weather map showed that it bowed around us mostly. No damage, no hail that we noticed, and just under an inch of rain. Truthfully, we needed that little bit of rain to water in the fertilizer spread on the hayfield about a week ago.
Coffee on the porch while birdwatching and a bit of work done by both Stephanie and I. Sadie continued her schooling and was tasked with drawing a map of her neighborhood - which was ours and the neighbor's houses down our country road.
I talked to Dad for a while about vacation plans. I called Ft. Robinson for some clarification on their camping - they are reopening for camping mid-May. I also tried to find out about availability at Gulf State Park in Alabama as well, but their website showed them completely booked even into September. That didn't seem right so I called and left a message. They called back (wouldn't you know it) the one time I left my phone inside while Mr. Wilmot came up to borrow the log splitter.
We visited a while. It looks like maybe a group camping trip is in the cards.
Supper was wings once again from Bottlecap. Sadie loves the honey bbq. Steph got the Cajun once again (not as spicy this time). I got the mild Buffalo wings. This is my favorite so far, I think.
An hour on the porch. An episode of Arrow with Sadie. The conclusion of Season 3 of The Last Kingdom.
I have said it before - we have become way too predictable. I really want a destination to write about!!!

Corona Thoughts, Part 40 (Working at Home is Tiring!)
4.28.2020
Tuesday.
This post may say part 40, but in reality, it has been over 40 days in lockdown. Gov. Abbott says the shelter in place ends Friday (May 1) but so many people seem to want to live under house arrest. More and more doctors are coming out saying this has been an overreaction to the extent that the powers that be have whipped us into a froth. Fear generates power. History tells us that.
It was harder to post this tonight just simply because the day was hard. Alot of work for work was done, and most of a second summer class was built. I tried to get reservations for the RV at Dinosaur Valley SP, Fairfield Lake SP, or even Colorado Bend SP, but none as yet are allowing campers for overnight. Stupid... Very.
In the afternoon Dad needed help with a broken fence, so I helped. He needed me to drive the tractor home because it is becoming harder for him to climb in with his bad shoulder.
Grilled pork chops for supper. Sadie wanted to watch "Arrow," which Mom and Dad recommended. We watched the first 2 episodes.
Severe weather predicted for tonight. I am sure I will report on that tomorrow.

Corona Thougthts, part 39 (The light at the end of the tunnel?)
4.27.2020
Monday.
Maybe, perhaps, could be - that we are nearing the end of this COVID shutdown nonsense. Governor Abbott announced that retail businesses, movie theaters, restaurants, etc, may open at 25% capacity, with others of following later. It remains to be seen how that will work. I think he, as well as others, started to see the civil disobedience that was breaking out. Interestingly, he claimed that his EO supersedes local edicts. Take that, Judge Jenkins!
In world news, it has been confirmed that Kim Jong-Un (Communist dictator of North Korea) is dead. I am sure there is much grief and morning in Bernie Sander's mansions today.
Anyway, Mondays have been the busiest workdays for Stephanie and me. She had to go to BG to get some work to grade while I stayed here to get my classes ready for Final Exams. That was a good morning's worth to screen time. Sadie and I took a break when I showed her how to make paper gliders. Of course, she got in trouble for throwing them off the balcony once her mother got home.
One thing that has been lacking is the opportunity to get to the bank. Woodforest is in Wal-Mart, and I have been avoiding that like the plague (pun intended), but it had to be done. The workers were masked up, but few of the patrons. Aldi's customers were pretty devil-may-care as well.
Gov. Abbott's press conference came on while I drove home. Still no word on camping in the state parks.
Supper tonight was la lingua tacos (yes, it is what you think it is!) with refried beans. Beyond that, the day was pretty uneventful. It has been windy so any time spent outside has been unpleasant. They are predicting severe storms tomorrow.
Evening entertainment? Bird watching on the front porch, an ST:TNG, and more adventures of Uhtred of Bebbenburgh.

Corona Thoughts, Part 38 (Shelter-in-Place Sundays)
4.26.2020
Sunday.
It feels a bit like things are opening up in spite of the governor and mayors/judges, etc. At least that seems to be the case. As I noted, over the last few days I have seen more cars on the road. At various times today, I saw motorcycles and RVs both on the road in front of the house.
We got up about the "quarantine normal" time and had a bit of coffee on the porch, then bacon and eggs for breakfast. Church is still held online and so we watched it as a family. I sprayed some weeds in the yard, took the spray tank back to its owners, and spread gravel in the driveway before lunch.
Matt and Cindy are visiting Brandon and Jennifer with the new baby. Sadie has spent some time with Emma, so Stephanie and I walked up to give the new parents a baby gift. Then back home.
Bro. Grady announced this morning that he wanted to host a drive-by prayer request session, so Mom and I drove up there. I took some eggs to the preacher or whoever else wanted or needed them.
Once home, Steph took a short nap while I wasted time, then we made deviled eggs to take to Mom and Dad's tonight since they are having us up for supper. Afterward, Stephanie helped Mom with her fingernails and I sat on the porch with Dad. We discussed taking the camper somewhere if we could find a place open during all of this. Lake Murray State Park in Oklahoma looks nice but is full every weekend with, I would assume, Texas folks who cannot use our own state parks right now.
Mostly, though, we just watched the dogs in their front yard.
Emma invited Sadie up for a backyard sleepover and movie on the lawn, so the house is quiet, giving us the chance to catch up on Outlander and The Last Kingdom. Season 4 of TLK dropped tonight, but we will have to wait a few days until we get to where we need to be.
Gov. Abbott is supposed to talk tomorrow about the plan to end this lockdown. It will be interesting to see what he says. The state is becoming increasingly divided, so I am not sure there is a winning position for him to take anyway.

Corona Thoughts, part 37 (Brief Respite)
4.25.2020
Saturday once more. We did escape for a while, however.
The morning was fairly standard. Breakfast on the porch with our coffee while Sadie watered our little garden.
We made plans to visit Stephanie's parents today for a cookout. We took a nice grass-fed sirloin to grill and took the time to visit, watch the birds, and enjoy the nice East Texas weather. There was even time for a short walk within view of the private lake.
Some observations: There were many more cars on the road today, and certainly more travel trailers and RVs than I have seen in a while. I think that we are getting to a point where people are tired of the "house arrest" mentality. I know that stories on FB indicate protests across the country comprised of people who value freedom over safety.
We are still looking for options for next weekend. I am hoping that we find something fun.

Corona Thoughts, part 36 (Love Never Dies)
4.24.2020
Friday.
As I have said before, these days are running together and it is hard to keep things straight. It will be nice when this semester is over to provide for a fresh start.
Morning consisted of a bit of time on the porch with coffee, and Sadie and I planted a few watermelon seeds. She did some homework, Stephanie managed her class, and I did some of the same. Dad needed some help framing a new implement shed, and I told him I was putting "house framer" on my resume.
When the work was done, more porch sitting. We are getting good at that. I picked a bit and think I figured out Darling Nellie Gray in the key of D. I also spent a little time looking into summer vacation. We are leaning toward Fort Robinson, NE, again. Sadie played with Emma until storms threatened, but they did not amount to much here.
After supper, Brandon invited us up for a movie on the lawn. Storms passed to the south, and did not affect us at all besides some wind which shifted from the north. Andrew Lloyd Webber has been releasing videos of stage productions on YouTube hoping to generate contributions to the actors. Tonight's was Love Never Dies, the sequel to Phantom of the Opera. It was interesting, to say the least.
We got home late, and Wilson Fairchild announced the passing of Harold Reid, the bass voice of the Statler Brothers. I grew up listening to the quartet, and I must admit I always hoped for a return of such an important part of my childhood. Not to be now.
But from his life, I am fairly certain where he is tonight. Such an inspiration! Rest in Peace.

Corona Thoughts, part 35 (Another Day)
4.23.2020
Thursday, I think...
It has been warmer today, and promises to be warmer tomorrow.
I have been in a funk again today, and am wanting to get away. Stephanie made chaffles for breakfast, and we spent a few minutes on the porch.
The bank still has not received our mortgage so I went in to write them another check, change the oil, and get a few groceries. Our mechanic advised to pay attention to the oil life counter, and as such, I should be able to get another 2k out of the oil
Lunch, then a short nap this afternoon, a walk, then supper. An episode of Gummi Bears. A game through Discord with friends.
The walls are closing in, for sure.

Corona Thoughts, part 34 (Work and Play)
4.22.2020
Wednesday.
We were supposed to have storms this morning, so I got up early to take out the trash for haul-off and went with Brandon and Dad to hang some new gates. It started to rain while we were working, but that was about all we had.
The rest of the morning and a good part of the day was spent building one of the classes that I will teach this summer. For the most part, though, that job is done.
Sadie has been reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. She finished it today and was so proud as a result.

Supper was hot wings from Bottle Cap Alley. I helped Dad dig a hole for a project he is working on on the way to town to get the take-out. Then, about an hour on the porch with a guitar help to ease us into the evening.
Divisions seem to be growing amid this COVID-19 thing. Reports are that two states are suing China over it. Wonder where that will go?

Corona Thoughts, part 33 (Building Fences and Birdwatching)
4.21.2020
It is Tuesday, but I swear to goodness that I thought it was Saturday when the sun came up.
It is also a workday in that stuff needed to be done for class. We are about 1 1/2 weeks from finals.
Before work, we had coffee on the porch. Sadie watered the gardens. Dad had fertilizer spread on the hayfields.
After lunch, Dad needed help re-hanging some gates and repairing some fences to keep the cows out of the young hay. Brandon had a meeting at 3, so while he did that virtually I mowed the yard. Then back to fencing.
Supper was chorizo breakfast burritos. Then we sat on the front porch to "watch the evening tire" while Stephanie tried to identify a small bird in the crepe myrtle trees. She thinks it is a Pheobe. Here is some information about the little guy, if that is what it is. Interestingly enough, Audobon Society says this is lost habitat. Apparently not!
Sadie has been asking to watch Field of Dreams for a long while, so that was tonight's entertainment. It really is a great movie; I had forgotten. Stephanie took advantage of the time to continue to set on the porch to write. Quiet evening, for sure.
It seems as though people are getting frustrated with this quarantine. In fact, the world seems to be dividing into two camps: those who think this is nonsense and those that are scared to death. I am afraid where the showdown is going.

Corona Thoughts, part 32 (Monday, Monday...)
4.20.2020
Monday.
There was a lot to do today for work. After we got started and had coffee on the porch, we both worked on stuff for work until around noon. Stephanie went to meet the folks from Blooming Grove for Sadie's lunch. Otherwise, the day was uneventful except for a brief run to town for some gardening supplies and chicken feed.
The roof rails for the Subaru came today along with the front license plate bracket, so I spent a few minutes installing those.
I fixed supper tonight. Beef liver and onions with Brussels sprouts. Don't knock it until you've tried it!
After supper, I introduced Sadie to a childhood favorite of mine: Disney's Adventures of the Gummi Bears. I guess she liked it since she asked to watch a second episode.
For the family, there is not much to say, other than the fact that we are now well over a month into this craziness. We are trying to decide how to break the monotony for this weekend. Several options lie before us...
The price of oil did tank today, which is bad. In fact, the price of oil went negative. One thing that would help is to allow the economy of Texas and the other states to drive up demand for the oil. I would love to take the RV on a road trip right now, but with the shelter in place, the state parks are only open to day use. Absolute nonsense, that!

Corona Thoughts, part 31 (Sunday Once Again)
4.19.2020
Sunday again.
Up by 8 with coffee on the porch and a light breakfast. Then Church via Facebook Watch on the Firestick.
This morning was uneventful. We thought one of the cows was in labor, but that did not seem to be the case. She picked up and moved on, although she had a bit of a limp. It was a misty, rainy morning, with a brief thunderstorm that surged the power near the end of Bro. Grady's sermon.

The afternoon was lazy. Stephanie thinks she has had a migraine all day probably because she had been off her diet due to the quarantine. It has just been too easy to eat poorly.
Sadie is coming right along with her Harry Potter book. Off and on I picked on the guitar. I started learning "All of the Hard Days are Gone" by Kevin McKrell. The C Chord is giving me trouble.
Tonight's movie: Brave. In my opinion, it is the best Pixar movie made.

Review: The Chosen, season 1
I cannot say that I am a religious scholar, particularly in the life of the disciples, but have a decent understanding of basics. The television series, The Chosen, is a direct stream release from VidAngel studios that is made possible by a crowdfunding project, which means in this case that it is free with a request to donate so that it can be free to others as well.
Episode 1 focuses on some of the backstories of Mary Magdalene, Nicodemus, Matthew, Simon Peter and his brother, Andrew. Mary is portrayed as a demon-possessed young woman in Caperium's "Red Quarter," and Nicodemus is a rabbi asked to help her but sees his own faith unable to exorcise the spirit. What results is a crisis of faith when the demon tells him that he "has no power here." Matthew, the tax collector who is contracted as a Roman spy when he reports that Simon Peter is an untrustworthy informant of those merchants who cheat on their taxes. Episode 2 builds upon those stories and continue to work toward their callings to Christ, and introduces Jesus to the story several years before his ministry began. Most importantly, it shows the humanity of Jesus beyond the gospel stories. Episode 3 is particularly moving.
And as the series progressed, and the familiar Gospel stories came to life, it grew stronger. While it uses modern language, it still works. It is truly inspired work.
It is a dynamic, colorful story that is well-acted by both well known and unknown actors as well. Many, if not most, of the actors, give the appearance of the middle east, so that provides a bit of authenticity even if the language and look isn't quite as strong as The Nativity Story or Risen. Yet it is a humble, non-assuming, and creative look at the early ministry of Jesus.
Sadie would have binged it if we had allowed it, but as with any great story we chose to consume it slowly so as to savor it.
Corona Thoughts, part 30 (Garden Beds and BBQ)
4.18.2020
Saturday. I think.
Today seemed much like the rest, but I tried to make a point to get things done outside. It was slightly warmer but overcast. Dirt was delivered today for the garden, so I moved the beds and built a temporary fence to protect the veggies. Sadie and I planted tomatoes, peppers, and yellow squash. She wants me to plant some watermelon, so I will have to see if that is a possibility.
Stephanie went to town to get barbecue from Smoking Guns for lunch, and there was so much we had leftovers for supper.
About the time I finished the garden we walked up to Brandon's for a visit in their back yard while the girls played. We were supposed to have a game online again tonight, but it fell through. So, nightly entertainment was another episode of The Chosen, a bit of storytime, and Stephanie and I finished the evening with The Last Kingdom. It was the start of Season 3 tonight as we prepare the release of Season 4 in a week or so.

Apparently, an empty flower pot is the place to nap if you are a chicken!

Corona Thoughts, part 29 (Rain and roses)
4.17.2020
Friday.
It has been over one month. In fact, on March 17th (St. Patrick's Day) we had family over, and it was the last bit of normalcy we had. At that time school was only to be delayed a week. Oh, to have known. I am ready to be able to change the names of these blog posts.
The weather changed today. Yesterday was warm and pleasant, and I was able to spend a bit of time outside, but today the weather was much cooler and wet. It was pleasant enough for coffee, however, until the rains and cold air joined us.
After spending the morning grading essays, I did plant a few roses I had bought the other day in Tyler.
Governor Abbot announced that the State Parks would be opening with restrictions, but the details were slim. Some rumor has been that it would only be for day-use. Who knows.
While Sadie worked on cleaning her room and Stephanie worked on her novel I spent a bit of time with the guitar and learned that I can sing "On The Banks of the Ohio" better with a capo at the 5th Fret.
Since we tried to watch an episode of The Chosen the other night and it was having trouble streaming, we decided to check out Episode 5 earlier when fewer people would be on.
Mom and Dad went back to Tyler since the azaleas are on sale. I asked them to pick up another red double-knockout rose for in front of the studio porch. When they got home they called and asked Brandon and me to help with a chore. It did not take long.
We had supper when I got home. I played around on the guitar a little bit; I am really enjoying it, and feel like I have come a long way in a short time - Thanks, 'Rona!
Evenings entertainment - ST: TNG; A chapter from "Little Town on the Prairie;" and after Sadie went to bed, The Last Kingdom.
We are becoming way too predictable!

Corona Thoughts, part 28 (Waterlines and Campfires)
4.16.2020
Thursday.
Today has been different, at least. After breakfast and some work for class Sadie and I went to Hubbard to ACE Hardware for some materials to fix the waterline to the chicken coop. I also got some seeds and Stephanie some cable ties for her stays that she is making.
Upon getting home and having lunch, I started to work on the waterline, but realized that I bought the wrong size of PVC fittings. I had to go to Atwoods, but they didn't have what I needed, aside from some veggie plants, so I went to Gilfillans. Home again, and again I worked on the repair, but the glue did not hold. I will have to buy another elbow joint to fix it at a later date.
The plants from yesterday needed planting, and I put the mint, lavender and Mexican heather in pots while Stephanie went to Brandon's to check on Sadie who hurt her foot on a scooter. Sadie was invited to spend the night with Emma in her tent in a backyard campout.
I took Sadie up there, and I stayed for a while to visit. Brandon had a campfire so we shared a few S'mores before I left. Once home, I played a bit on the guitar, then we continued The Last Kingdom.
It has been a busy day, but a good one for us.
As far as the Covid-19 numbers, there are 20 cases now, but a number have recovered. Hopefully things will be allowed to open up again soon.

Corona Thoughts, part 27 (Wings and Roses)
4.15.2020
By most reckonings, it is day 30 or 31. In the beginning, it did not occur to me that this was going to be a long-drawn-out thing... It certainly has become that.
Today is also Tax Day and the IRS has extended the deadline for filing, so I guess this is strong enough to thwart the Internal Revenue Service for awhile.
For our family, things were a bit different. We are getting to the point where the recommendation to stay home means little. It is true among many families, it seems.
Sadie was reading Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone when we got up.
The morning was quite normal, with coffee and a nice breakfast, and we each had work to do. Dad needed help removing the damaged shroud on his truck. Lunch. Then I rode with Mom and Dad to Tyler for plants while Stephanie stayed home with Sadie
Gas in Tyler was $1.30 at Sam's Club, and Dad noted that he had not seen it that low in 50 years. The Plants of Texas nursery had Spanish lavender, so I bought one for the pot on the porch. At Harris', I bought two elderberry plants, some red double-knockout roses, some Mexican heather, and some mint for summer tea.
Supper was chicken wings from Bottlecap Alley. They are half-off on Wednesdays.
After supper, we watched episode 5 of The Chosen, which was about the wedding at Cana and the start of Jesus's ministry. Other than that, it was a quiet evening.
On the way home dad got a call to be a part of a virtual town hall hosted by Senator John Cornyn. It was difficult to hear, so he hung up after about 30 minutes We discussed how many people were in Tyler, and how the stay-at-home orders are falling apart. People, I believe, just don't believe it is that bad anymore. Even some of those that were scared to death at the beginning are starting to feel they have been played.
There have been protests of the state lockdowns in Michigan and North Carolina today. There is some word of a similar event in Austin tomorrow.

Corona Thoughts, part 26 (New and Old)
4.14.2020
Tuesday. Work to do today for classes, and Stephanie has the same. It is cold again today, but not rainy, which is good.
There was a new calf born behind the house this morning. The buzzards were particularly troubling to the pair.
After a bit of work this morning I paid the electric bill and went to Aldi for bacon and a few other items that we needed. It was a quick trip. I would say about 40% were wearing the masks while the rest were not. More and more activity in social media tells me that people are beginning to question how this thing is being handled. I know that we are.
The stimulus check came today. We are considering the best way to make use of it.
In order to prepare for summer vacation, I ordered top rails for the Forester. We need to decide on a cargo carrier for the top.
I suppose I was in a funk today. It did not help when my contract came in and there was apparently no step raise this time. Brandon checked his and it isn't an error on mine. We will see if it was something wrong across the board or if we, in fact, will not be seeing our experience step applied.
Amazon got the coffee order right today. I noticed on the walk to the mailbox that the cattle have chosen a sunny spot in the field. They are peaceful today.
Stephanie cooked the ham that we didn't fix at Easter, and I did a bit more for class in preparation for the summer courses. She also had a nice brief visit with a friend from Keller High School. After that, we watched Episode 3 of The Chosen. This one was particularly sweet. Episode 4 dealt with Simon Peter and Andrew, mostly.
Our journey with Uhtred continued as well, and we prepared for another day of self-imposed (yet socially pressured) exile.

Corona Thoughts, part 26 (Another Day)
4.13.2020
Day 26.
Today being Monday it was back to the job. Both of us vowed to stay away from work as much as possible this weekend; Her superintendent even sent an email directing her to put it away. But today, being a new day and less than 3 weeks from finals, we both hit it hard.
Steph was up earlier than me and set out for her schoolroom early to pick up work turned in by students. She was home by 11am. I recorded another video while she was gone, and pickup up lunch for Sadie and Emma at Dresden from Mrs. Thormann.
It was cold today, and maybe that is why we were both so tired. We laid down for a nap after lunch and slept way too long. I went through a few more guitar lessons and Stephanie helped Sadie decorate neglected Easter eggs while the chicken cooked in the oven.
Steph did a bit more work after supper, and I began pricing roof bars for the Forester since we will need them (along with a cargo box) if we are to take it camping this summer should the world return to normal. The Forester has less interior space for cargo than the Outback did.
Evening entertainment - An episode or two of The Chosen and perhaps an episode of The Last Kingdom if time allows. We shall see; tonight might be an early night instead.
It was reported that the number of Corona cases in the county has risen to 16, with the largest single count in Rice. I suspect it is because of its proximity to the interstate. Gov. Abbott spoke today, but I have not yet heard what he said. I will try to check out the talk-shows in the morning for an update.

Corona Thoughts, part 25 (Resurrection Sunday)
4.12.2020
Resurrection Sunday. Easter.
Today started with a bang. Around 4 am it started to lightning and thunder, and the winds upwards of 60 mph hit between 5 and 6 am. It scared Sadie and she came down. We all set up for a while until it stopped. It rained over 2". We had no damage that we found, but others were not so lucky.
I fixed a sweet potato hash I saw the description of on Facebook. It was really good!
The storm knocked the internet out, and we had to rely upon our cell service to stream Bro. Grady's Easter message from church. Mom and Dad were having a small cookout for Easter in their back yard by the pool, so we fixed deviled eggs and coleslaw to add to the meal.
We went down around 1 pm and visited a bit. I took my guitar and picked a bit. Burgers and hot dogs was the fare. Sadie and Emma then hunted eggs. It was a good get-together, but very odd. We kept our distance from each other through it all.
We were tired when we got home due to the lack of sleep this morning. So we came home and took a nap. Brandon sent me a message with a picture from his hives for my judgment. There were eggs, which is what he was concerned about. He seems to have a healthy queen.
Supper was leftovers since we had a big lunch. While it heated Sadie and I did a sing-along.
Afterward, we watched Risen, which has become a tradition for Easter Sunday evening. We were going to watch the second episode of The Chosen and decorate eggs, but Sadie said we could do the eggs tomorrow. "One day is like the next," was her position on the issue regarding the eggs. She has been talking about watching Risen for several days now.

Corona Thoughts, part 24 (The Chosen, episode 1)
4.11.2020
Saturday.
The morning started out pretty and bright, but the forecast was for changing weather by mid-day. Breakfast and coffee on the porch with some rest and relaxation was nice. Stephanie talked to her mother for a bit, and Sadie played with her horses in the sandbox until the wind and rain came.
It was an uneventful day.
I attempted to learn a few more songs on the guitar, and Sadie joined me in singing them. We worked on Colleen Malone a bit more, and we played Darling Nellie Gray, Bury Me Beneath the Willow, Down in the Willow Garden, and On the Banks of the Ohio. I think Sadie enjoyed it.
Stephanie called the lady that she sells Color Street nails under, and I made chili. It was not as good as I have made before, but still good.
After, we looked up the series called The Chosen, which is about the life of Christ and the disciples. Some of our friends have sung its praises, but it is not on a common streaming service. It is on VidAngel, and Stephanie figured out how to cast it from her phone. We thought we would try it since it is free right now. Pretty cool! If you are interested here is the link.
The production value is very good, and I look forward to all 8 episodes of the series. Afterward, we decorated Easter cookies that Jenn sent for Sadie to do.
This is a strange Easter weekend considering that normally we would spend some time today with Michael and Valerie in Athens, but with the shelter-in-place everyone is trying to keep their distance. We will have a small Easter cookout tomorrow at Mom and Dad's, but it will not be anywhere near what we usually have. It will also be an Easter Sunday without the gathering at Church, so we will be streaming the service once again.
Perhaps we are getting to the end of this. No new cases in the county and there were three recoveries reported. Gov. Abbott has said that he wants to address the state about potentially starting to open things up again next week. Here's to hoping.
By the way, Spotify's "Grass Roots" playlist is awesome, and made for a good soundtrack for the evening. FYI!

Corona Thought, part 23 (Good Friday, Catfish, and Honey Bees)
4.10.2020
Good Friday. The Day of the Crucifixion. And it did not seem like a holy day, I suppose because each day really does feel like the next.
I got up this morning with a few things to do for work, but Stephanie and I both agreed that since this would have been a day off we would treat it as such today. I had 3 essays to grade and a few settings to tinker with, but otherwise, I tried to leave work alone.
We needed some groceries - Salsa, chips, cheese, etc, in particular - and I needed to put some money in the bank and pay the electric bill so I got my customer-made-by-Stephanie facemask complete with coffee filter insert and ventured forth to do what needed to be done. The electric company was closed, however, but I got the rest of it done.

Either I am about to do something felonious or I can be a vigilante superhero - Quarantine Crusader, or something.
Stephanie went to spend a bit of time on the porch after lunch, and I joined her with the guitar trying to learn "Colleen Malone." It is fairly straightforward, but there are a lot of chord changes. It will take a while.
Sadie noticed some cars at Brandon's, and I needed to take him the butter I got for him in town anyway, so Sadie and I walked up. Ray was visiting and checking out Brandon's new beehives. Before all was said and done, Brandon had me suited up and looking at bees as well.
Stephanie was laying down when I got back. We had planned on making Chili for supper and the beans for it were in the Instapot, but since today was a warm one and Friday is when Parrish Country Store has fried catfish we decided to do take out from there and make chili tomorrow - Got to support the local businesses after all.
Stephanie made a keto ice cream that tasted like a frosty! Oh, man!
After supper, we set up the gas fire pit in the yard and enjoyed the sun sinking behind the horizon. Sadie wanted smores so I made a few, and we discussed the stars. Stephanie downloaded a stargazer app when we got tired of discussing a few of the brighter objects in the sky.
We decided this one was Venus.
Sadie wasn't feeling too good in her tummy at bedtime, but I hope it is just an irregular diet over the last few days. We have started getting her lunch from school, so hopefully, that is all it is.
Another episode of The Last Kingdom, and bedtime for us. No great social commentary today. There is some talk of Gov. Abbott allowing closed businesses to open as early as next week. I hope so! We all need it, virus be damned.

Corona Thoughts, part 22 (Rain and More Rain)
4.9.2020
Thursday.
It is warm again today, but the weather is changing. Still in the morning, with rain starting in mid-afternoon. It is supposed to be cooler tomorrow.
After coffee on the back porch and a quiche breakfast (it is what you have when the chickens give you 14 eggs per day), we both did the work from home gig. Several videos recorded, and a number of essays graded were my tasks. Sadie did her homeschool.
After lunch I walked to Mom and Dad's for some ant poison they picked up for me in town, and helped Dad assemble a Purple Martin house. I know our back yard is full of them.
Decaf coffee on the porch, while it rained, was our next activity.
Leftovers for supper, and "The Good Dinosaur" on Disney+. A few attempts at "On The Banks Of The Ohio" on the guitar.
I am so ready for this to become a travel blog again!

Jamaica Beach, Day 4
Today started slow, as vacation days should. No real plans other than a bit of shopping and a nap. Quick breakfast and then helped Brandon....
