Spring Break 2024 - Wine Tasting bust, and wildflowers!

We obviously don't know how to do wine tastings in Fredericksburg... More on that later.

We slept in, then set out for pastries at the German Bakery in town .  Peach Danish and Nutella-stuff croissants, and a Bavarian cream pastry.  Really, really good.

Wildseed Farms was a cool stop, and we bought some seeds and cool items.  Walking the gardens was a peaceful experience.

Then we drove toward Johnson City but the Meadery was closed.  Next to Untamed, but it was a sit-down tasting, which isn't what we are used to.  Most wineries that we are used to charge $5 for a sampling, but it is much more expensive here.

Fat Ass Winery is known for its peach wine, so we bought a bottle to take back with us.  This one was more down to earth.  Even had a saddle pad signed by George Strait.

Dad wanted to go back to Main Street in town, so that is what we did. Rustic Rob's has tons of items to sample, and for a second day in a row, we spent money there.

Back to camp for a late lunch and some rest.  Hot dogs in the grill tonight.

A nice couple from Ft. Worth hosted a jam tonight so I got a change to pick a little.  A good way to end the trip!

Tomorrow we head home again...

Spring Break - Fredericksburg, Day 2

It is cold this morning - around 49 degrees - but the new electric heater certainly kept up.  We slept comfortably.

The Outland Fire bowl was nice this morning and accompanied coffee well.  Today we will see what Fredericksburg has to offer.  We are not here long enough to see everything and don't have the time to dedicate to the Nimitz Museum (They say it is a multi-day dedication in time). A bit of shopping, German food, and perhaps a winery is more on the agenda.  Oh, and Walmart for a new shower head.

The main street comes alive in the morning, and it soon was very busy.  There are many cute shops and I love how they preserve their old buildings here.

Lunch was at Auslanders, and I have to say it was fantastic!!!  Imported German beer, schnitzel, Kopse (German meatballs), and Rouladen, and finished out with apple strudel.  Dad had the sausage plate and Mom had a burger.  So, so good!  I will eat again next week.  Then back to the camper for a rest before we get out again.

Walmart had the shower head we needed, so after a nap we went and picked it up and went by HEB for a case of the German beer we had at lunch.  Then back to help Dad with a stopped up line in the camper.  No one was hungry after the big meal at lunch so we waited later than normal, but eventually we cooked up fajitas, visited for awhile, walked Fergus and settled in for bed.

One more day!

Spring Break 2024 - Fredericksburg, Texas (Day 1)

March 10

Spring break is travel time for us, but this spring has been mad.  We have been tired, and so the decision was made to stay closer to home.

So, Texas Hill Country here we come!

The morning came early since last night was the time change but we were on the way by 8:30 am.

The travel was uneventful, and we were at Oakwood RV Park by 1:30.  The sites we got were tight.  The premium sites would have been preferable but not available.

Mom and Dad, who left a little after us, arrive while we were setting up.  Our nextdoor neighbor is from Illinois.  He is traveling alone.

When taking the dogs to the dog park we discovered the "wildlife."

This place is about history and wine...  So we are sure to check those things out!

Two trips to Walmart for things we forgot, taco salad for supper, and a bit of time around the fire, then ...

We all piled into the truck and drove down main to see what is here.  Such a cute town, and a ton of restaurants.  We plan on having a German lunch tomorrow!

No RV trip happens without some damage, sadly.  We discovered that our Oxygenics showerhead broke.  It either fell or got brittle in the heat or cold.  Either way, a quick order from Walmart curbside will fix it tomorrow.

Jamaica Beach, Day 4

Today started slow, as vacation days should.  No real plans other than a bit of shopping and a nap. Quick breakfast and then helped Brandon....
