We haven't gone to the movies in quite some time. Between the last few years of lockdown madness and the rising costs, it just hasn't been high priority. We have bought a few films as they released such as Dune and the third Holland Spiderman movie, but I honestly cannot remember our last cinema experience. I think it was Rogue One.
Regardless, three weeks ago the hype ramped up about Top Gun: Maverick. I loved the original and as a kid had the game on my Nintendo, but for some reason the new movie just wasnt on my radar. Then the praise started.
So we streamed the 1986 movie in prep to see the new release. Then we paid our $10 for matinee (which includes tax and online booking fee) and settled in.
And it was awesome! Nostalgic without pandering. Pro-American. Pro-military. And certainly not woke. And it did not break down much-loved characters from the OG. It elevated them.
If time allows we will be returning to see it again before it departs the theater.
Great, now I have Danger Zone in my head. Earworm!
